The early Iron Maiden vocalist passed away at the age of 66 in October.
The family of the late, great Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di’Anno has disclosed the cause of his death.
Paul Di’Anno, who was the frontman for Iron Maiden on their first two albums, *Iron Maiden* and *Killers*, died at his home in Salisbury on 21st October 2024, at the age of 66.
On the 11th November, a statement on Paul Di’Anno’s official Facebook page announced that the autopsy results have now been made public.
It states: ‘We have received permission from Paul's family to bring you the news of Paul's cause of death, after the results of the autopsy have been received.
‘His sisters Cheryl and Michelle confirmed the following: "Basically he had a tear in the sac around the heart and blood has filled inside it from the main aorta artery and that has caused the heart to stop."
‘Paul's death was instantaneous and hopefully painless. May he rest in peace.’
The post concludes: ‘This weekend, an In Memoriam show was held at Underworld Camden, where many of Paul's fans, friends, colleagues, and family members gathered. With a magnificent musical set, his musical colleagues gave a worthy farewell to their friend.’
Di’Anno had been actively touring in recent years and performed a series of UK shows over the summer, including an appearance at Stonedead Festival. His final live performance was at Hyde Park, Kraków, Poland, on 30th August 2024.
Following his passing, Iron Maiden honored Di’Anno, acknowledging his “immense” contribution to the band.
Bruce Dickinson also paid a moving tribute to Di’Anno at Iron Maiden’s Minnesota concert on Tuesday, 22nd October, ending his homage with “For Paul Di'Anno, scream for me!"
